Cold Spray and Large-Scale Additive Manufacturing Event in Central Massachusetts Exceeds Expectations
Cold spray and large-scale additive manufacturing experts reunite on their 15 year anniversary for networking and discussion on the advancements in technology at the 2024 Action Team event.
August 12, 2024, Worcester, Mass – Solvus Global, a MA-based technology solution provider for materials and manufacturing, aiming to move the world of advanced manufacturing technology forward, hosted nearly 400 attendees June 11- 13 at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA for the annual Action Team Event. The three-day hybrid conference encompassed both the Cold Spray Action Team (CSAT) and the Large Scale Additive Action Team (LSAAT) conferences.
Attracting viewers from more than 35 different countries, conference participants consisted of universities (29%), government institutions (16%), and industries (55%) that included R&D, defense, aerospace, and energy.
“Learning and collaboration are essential to driving the additive manufacturing industry forward; seeing so many new faces is a great sign that the ecosystem is alive and growing,” said Associate Director Dr. Aaron Birt. “Cold Spray and Large Metal AM are both at a key transition point – the event really highlighted these transition stories showcasing real parts ranging from disc brakes to expeditionary repair solutions. As always, we are grateful for all our sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees who made this year’s show such a huge success.”
The CSAT 2024 sessions, provided insight for attendees on advancements in equipment, new developments in metal powder for cold spray, and a variety of application use cases ranging from aerospace & aviation to ship repairs.
Presentations at LSAAT 2024 embraced new challenges and success stories surrounding large format advanced manufacturing’s role in producing replacement parts needed for oil refineries, critical infrastructure bridges, military artillery, and more.
Over 50 speakers took to the stage to highlight new developments in technology, research, project development strategy, and more.
The exhibitor booths and concourse were full of valuable conversations and personal networking that spurred collaboration and partnerships at the event. VRC Metal Systems and SPEE3D represented some of the leading industry original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) amongst 30 sponsors of the 2024 Action Team Event.
Student researchers and post-doctoral fellows presented 24 posters which were on display at the event. The CSAT and LSAAT Organizing Committee received submissions from 11 accredited schools including Northeastern University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Florida International University, Mississippi State University, Baylor University, and University of Massachusetts Amherst in addition to many others.
An informative reception was hosted for more than 100 attendees at the Solvus Global Center for Scaled Innovations in Manufacturing (cSIM) facility in Leominster, MA featuring the latest in advanced manufacturing technology from cold spray additive to wire arc directed energy deposition, friction stir welding, and 5-axis machining. Representatives from our Action Team OEMs were on site to showcase their systems.
